July 2026 global crude steel output fell 0.3% YoY to 149.2M tonnes. China down 3.6%; India, US, EU, and Vietnam posted gains. Full regional & country breakdown.

Global crude steel production among the 70 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) reached 149.2 million tonnes in July 2026, a 0.3% decrease compared to July 2025, according to the industry body's latest data. 

Regional output varied, with Africa posting a 6.1% increase to 2.0 million tonnes, while Asia and Oceania saw a 1.2% drop to 109.4 million tonnes. The European Union (27) produced 10.5 million tonnes, up 3.8%, and other European countries contributed 3.7 million tonnes, a 5.8% rise. The Middle East recorded a 13.4% contraction to 3.8 million tonnes, while North America grew 4.9% to 9.6 million tonnes. Russia and other CIS nations plus Ukraine increased output by 2.2% to 6.7 million tonnes, and South America rose 2.8% to 3.6 million tonnes. 

Among the top producers, China led with 76.9 million tonnes, down 3.6% year-on-year. India followed with 14.4 million tonnes, up 1.9%, and the United States produced 7.4 million tonnes, a 4.4% gain. Japan's output edged up 0.4% to 6.9 million tonnes, while Russia was estimated at 5.7 million tonnes, up 3.3%. South Korea increased 6.4% to 5.7 million tonnes, and Turkiye rose 7.0% to 3.4 million tonnes. Germany was estimated at 2.8 million tonnes, up 3.0%, Brazil at 2.8 million tonnes, up 0.1%, and Viet Nam surged 34.7% to 2.7 million tonnes. 

The 70 reporting countries accounted for roughly 98% of total world crude steel production in 2025.
